Kristin McGee is Associate Professor of Popular Music at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She is also the current Chair of the IASPM Benelux chapter. She has published a book on jazz women in film and television (Some Liked it Hot: Jazz Women in Film and Television, 1928-1959) and is currently working on a project investigating crossover jazz scenes in the Netherlands. Her research themes include new media, gender, race, performance practice, jazz, audiovisual media, transnational popular music and globalization. She is also a saxophonist and has contributed to performance art, fusion, jazz and popular music ensembles in Chicago and Groningen. She is the current director of the Groningen Student Big Band. She also works with Dutch mixed-media collective Hora Est, a poetry, film, music exposition group.
